Clients and Colleagues:
From all of us at Gray·Duffy, we hope your 2023 is off to a great start. Last year marked a significant change for the firm as I took over the Managing Partner role, and I’m proud to say we’re still standing, although at a new location! In case you missed it, our Encino office moved to 21700 Oxnard Street, Suite 1950, Woodland Hills, CA 91367.

We were thrilled to close out the year with a huge win for our client Eurocon Group Inc., a Los Angeles-based construction company. Following a three-week jury trial, Partner Michelle MacDonald and I secured a 12-0 defense jury verdict in a $2.3 million subrogation claim brought by Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company. Learn more.
In continuing with our mission of keeping clients apprised of issues that impact their businesses, we also published numerous articles; a sample follows below.
- “Wrongful Exhaustion” – Challenging the Payment Decisions of Underlying Insurers
- The Tulsa Race Massacre and Use of “Riot” in Property Insurance Insuring Agreements, Exclusions and Limitations
- Vertical Exhaustion and Horizontal Exhaustion
The firm was privileged to be recognized for an eighth consecutive year as a “Best Law Firm” by U.S. News – Best Lawyers ® in the category of Insurance Law, and maintained our Martindale-Hubbell AV Preeminent rating.
Most importantly, we’d like to thank all of you for your ongoing relationship with Gray·Duffy. We wish you success and good health in 2023 and beyond.
– Michael Eisenbaum, Managing Partner
LEGAL NEWS & ANALYSIS
The Role of the Independent Mediator
The arena of alternate dispute resolution (ADR) has become filled with neutrals both large and small who provide an invaluable service to the litigation community and the overtaxed court system. Many “independent” neutrals, not affiliated with institutional providers such as AAA and JAMS, offer competitive and oftentimes more cost-effective alternatives within the framework of traditional ADR. In his Daily Journal article, Partner Richard Williams examines the potential benefits of independent mediators.
